QuietPixel was hired by Miltec, Corp. to develop a device simulator for their suite of military training applications. To make this possible, we built an easy to use system for adding switches, buttons, knobs, sliders, lights and dials in a 3D game world. Behind the scenes, the artists could connect the virtual control objects to each other using virtual wires. For example, in the generator control panel shown below, to start the generator, you first have to turn on the main power switch. Only then is power shunted to the rest of the panel, turning on lights, and activating the dials and knobs. You then had to turn the rotary switch to the right setting, and press the start button. Only after following the correct steps, would the generator start up and the student get credit for having learned the startup procedure.
